Dr. Laura Stephens is an Associate Professor of Pathology and Associate Director of Transfusion Medicine at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). She was previously the Blood Bank Medical Director at the University of Arizona, where she received the College of Medicine’s Faculty Clinical Excellence Award and multiple teaching awards. Dr. Stephens graduated from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine with Gold Humanism Award Honors and the Henry C. Morton Community Service Award for her work investigating health care disparities on Chicago’s South Side. She then completed clinical pathology residency training at UCSD and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine fellowship training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Stephens is a passionate educator and enjoys collaborating with transfusion medicine and apheresis colleagues on national committees and subsections. Her academic interests range from hemolytic anemias and blood conservation strategies to hospital price transparency and graduate medical education.
